Episode #161 of The Andy Derer Show! “What’s Shakin?” with special guest Ric Addy

Ric Addy

This week Andy had a delightful discussion about the current climate of rock and roll with Ric Addy, owner of the long-running book and music shop Shake, Rattle and Read (located at 4812 N Broadway in Chicago). The guys chat about Ric’s story, working for record store chains until taking over his sister’s shop in the 1980s. From there, Ric witnessed the most turbulent changes ever in the record industry: the death of vinyl, the birth of the compact disc, the advent of the mp3, the death of the compact disc and the re-birth of vinyl. All this in what feels like a blink of the eye. This year, Shake, Rattle and Read will be shutting it’s doors due to rising property taxes and other factors that are out of anyone’s hands.  It’s a nice conversation that anyone who values going to a brick and mortar store to buy their books and music should enjoy. Andy also plays a clip from his side project, Spin Class. Thanks for checking out The Andy Derer Show!
