Here’s your #TapeTuesday! Neneh Cherry “Buffalo Stance” (1988)

Here's your #TapeTuesday. Step-daughter of American jazz musician Don Cherry, Neneh Cherry set the pop charts ablaze in 1988 with "Buffalo Stance," a cuisinart of pop, techno and hip hop with a mega-catchy chorus. Cherry had already been a wonder child of the U.K. underground by collaborating with Massive Attack and Bomb the Bass (who would contribute the b-side remix) setting the table for her debut single. After its release, Cherry would cause a press furore when she performed "Buffalo Stance" while very pregnant at the UK's Top of the Pops TV show. The 90's were tough on Cherry with each album under-performing the one before it. Her half-brother Eagle Eye Cherry would light up the Billboard charts exactly ten years later when his "Save Tonight" cracked the US top ten in 1998. This cassette single remains a blast to listen to and its use of analog keyboards certainly does not sound out of place in 2016. However, the carefree adolescent vibe couldn't sound further away from now. An intriguing pop single. #NenehCherry #BuffaloStance #Cassingle #BombTheBass #TimSimenon #MarkSaunders #VirginRecords
